How do EPL and NCAA Division I teams break down opponents and implement game plans?

What is it?
An in depth four-week course focusing on the analysis of Soccer on a tactical level. Coaches from the English Premier League, and NCAA Division I (Ivy League, Southern Conference).

The course will work through the following aspects of how things are done at the professional and Division I college level;

  • Scouting opponent - what to look for and how to implement.
  • Philosophy - balancing your own style of play against adjusting for the opponent.
  • Training - Design of training drills to prepare for the game.
  • Game plan installation - Pregame tactical instruction delivery method.
  • In game adjustment - Reality of game playing out and adjustments in game and at halftime.
  • Postgame breakdown - How the game is broken down and used going forward.

The following games are to be used with staff involved in the game giving all information.

  • EPL 2015:  Chelsea 2-2 Swansea City - Premier League draw for Swansea away at the then defending champions Chelsea (led by Jose Mourinho) by Swansea City first team performance analyst Ryan Needs.
  • NCAA Division I 2016:  #1 University of North Carolina 0-1 Eastern Tennessee State University - Upset road win at nationally ranked UNC by ETSU broken down by ETSU head coach Bo Oshoniyi.
  • NCAA Division I 2019:  Dartmouth 2-1 Michigan State - Upset win for Ivy League Dartmouth over 2018 NCAA Final Four team Michigan State broken down by Dartmouth assistant coach Stewart Flaherty.

The schedule for zooms are available here, all videos will be available on the website to course members.

  • Sunday February 28th at 1pm US Eastern time - Ryan Needs (Former Swansea City at Chelsea)
  • Sunday March 7th at 7pm US Eastern time - Stewart Flaherty (Dartmouth v Michigan State)
  • Monday March 15th at 7pm US Eastern time - Bo Oshoniyi (ETSU at UNC)
  • Monday March 22nd - Course review and live Q & A with staff.

Price:

$200 for four live zooms with Q & A session and online community to pool ideas during the course. Lifetime access at materials (outside of this course) shared in Soccer Academics Coach Education Facebook group.
